HITACHI EXPRESS TRAIN “NOORIRO” HAS ENTERED REVENUE SERVICE FROM JUNE IN KOREA

SEOUL,DECEMBER,2009- Hitachi’s new express train(Trunk lineCar) has entered revenue service from June in Seoul, Korea. The train operates from Seoul station to Sinchan station with a maximum operating speed of 150km/h, connecting the two stations within an hour and a half. The train named, “NOORIRO” which is a newly coined word of Korean, means “the road towards the world.”

NOORIRO’s new clean-cut design is well welcomed by Korean citizens. Such designs like the round headed car and the white carbody with metallic blue line have never been seen in other existent trains. As for the interior, partitions made with glass and white wall give us the sharp and clean impression. The wide reclining seats also provide passengers a comfortable time during their travel.

“NOORIRO” is also an environmentally friendly express train. It is the first “distributed traction system electric train” to operate in Korea. Each car carries electric traction motors, which can help reduce the emission of CO2. It also uses aluminum for the carbody, which is lighter and can be recycled more efficiently compared with stainless steel.

“NOORIRO” runs through Gyeongbu Line, the main trunk railway of Korea, everyday, and is becoming one of the major transports for the commuters. We, Hitachi will provide our products to Korea and to the world, hoping to contribute to the environmentally friendly society from now onward too.
